Welcome to My Home
This was home for more years than he could remember. Age left little need for sleep, plenty of time to wander the halls, walls, and little known passages he’d built during the construction of his manor.
As a young man he was not sure what to do with the secret passageways, but the idea itself was exciting. Several wives, mistresses, business partners and competitors shared the intrigue.
Now they were permanent guests of his lovely home. So many companions – what more could a once abandoned child want? He reflected that his life was full, as he merged into the wall.

Ouch.. was his name Bluebeard per any chance… ?
I’m not familiar with Bluebeard…
If I think about it, the man and story is a composite sketch of people I have worked with over the years.
Dear Anne, Super scary story, and I think perhaps he is collecting a family, guests, or whomever is unfortunate to drop by. I’ll warn the girl scouts! Nan 🙂
Hi Nan,
Yeah, I’d tell the scouts not to sell cookies there…. but who knows, if he thinks he has to feed the folks, he might be a really great customer 😉
Anne, That was creepy. Just one big happy (?) family of ghosts. Sounds like he’s more than likely the only happy one there. It’s not exactly a bed and breakfast. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
Thanks, Susan. Sometimes the stories write themselves…this was one of them.
Permanent guests: housemates or prisoners? Hmmm…very interesting. The last paragraph just opens everything wide open for so many possibilities. Love it! 🙂
Never know what is floating around in my head lol. Guess this old ghost needed a place to stash the skeletons other than the closet 😉
Dear Anne,
Is it just me or is it creepy in here? Nicely done.
shalom,
Rochelle
I appreciate your feedback, Rochelle. Thanks! Ghosts and bodies don’t creep me out … but small furry dead animals do. And mimes. (Shudder)
Ooh! This has a Poe feel to it. I like the last paragraph, especially!
Gosh, I haven’t read Poe since I was 10 … eons ago. Glad you enjoyed it. I’ll have to dust off Poe and give it a quick read. Thanks for reading and commenting! 🙂
The particular story I was reminded of was “The Cask of Amontillado”. Walls play a role in that story, too!
If you do reread, may you enjoy, and maybe even find more inspiration. =)
